This can be used with Windows 98 you can also go to Start-Run and type
in msconfig-click on the startup Tab.
Startup Cop. Startup Cop was developed by PC Magazine, it is free and I have been running it on Windows 98 and have had O problems with it. It is easy to use and will even remove names of programs that no longer exist, but are still in the startup registry files. For XP you can use
Startup Control Panel by Mike lin
Actually if you hold down the Ctrl - Alt - Delete keys, a popup Window will appear ( link
to a
picture of it ). The programs
listed in the Window, have these files running in your System tray,(the bottom right hand corner of your Computer
Screen ) they are always running in the back ground and are not, all required to be running. For 98 you only need
SysTray and Explorer running. So big deal right, well they are using up your system resources, CPU,
on lower speed processors you need all the speed you can get. On my Packard Bell 200 mhz Computer , a few programs
running really slow it down. I only run System Tray, Explorer and Pop Proxy ( my E-mail virus protection program).
with Startup Cop it gives you the option to disable the program , if it effects your system , recheck it. In order to delete an entry, you first have to shut down your Computer , to see if deleting the file effects your system, if you have no problems, you are then allowed to delete the entry and the way it's done is really cool.
