Windows XP, Reformating using the Recovery Console.

As with Windows 9X make sure you backup all your data if you are going to reformat.

Next go to My Computer, right click on your C: drive, click Properties and check what File System is installed, NTFS or Fat32.
If you have a Computer that doesn't support Booting from a CD, you can download a Setup boot floppy program from Microsoft to make a Startup disk, which will load drivers to gain access to the CD-ROM drive.
These disks would contain the files and drivers required to access the CD-ROM drive and begin the setup process.

If you are currently running Windows 98 or Me and want to install XP:

You can also use the the Reformating page under the Computer Help section to reformat 98 or Me, I recommend that you do a clean install, not the upgrade to XP, that means you reformat the drive and then install XP.
*** NTFS file System is more secure, with less problems, the Fat32 file System is faster.***
