Mike, I downloaded some zip files for running tests on my computer & saved them to a floppy disk. The test are cpu tester & bios identifier. I've used these disk several times on different computers & they always worked,... but now when I try to run them on mine again,... I get the message "This program can't be run due to restrictions on this system. Please contact your system administrator." I don't know what I changed after I formatted the "C" drive? I'm still running win98 se. Also on bootup, I get the general bootup screen "200 cpu & varifying dmi pool data. Then it goes to the win98 logo screen & then it goes back to the varifying dmi pool data screen. It acts like it is trying to bootup twice before it finally boots into windows. Everything works fine except that I'm wondering about my cpu status, I downloaded another test program & it says my cpu is only 149 mgz. It's supposed to be a 233, at least thats whats on the label? It's a Cyricsinstead MMX 233.

You should be able to see what the CPU is in System Information. Here is a link to info on the dmi pool http://www.plasma-online.de/index.html?content=http%3A//www.plasma-online.de/english/help/solutions/win9x_dmi.html

OK, thanks Mike, I reset the system bios, that took care of that. I sent you the zip file that I was referring to. See if it works on yours.

I`m running Windows XP which, when booted, displays the Desktop but no Start-up programs are loaded. I can`t make use of System Restore, Dr Watson or MSconfig amongst others. The only programs I can run are Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and Windows Explorer (by means of which I can run files such as .mid, .txt, .gif using the icons` default tools.
If I try to run a program the following message appears: C:\Program Files\???\???.exe "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folders Options Control panel".
I can understand associating say a .mid file to an application that runs this type of file but to what does one associate an .exe file?
Do I have to do this for every program on the computer or am I missing something fundamental?
I have been able to run AVG virus scanner which states that the computer is clear.
Please, can any one help?
