Hi Maggie
Go into your Bios and change the Boot Option to Cd-Rom #1 then IDE-O secound then third the Floppy. That way it will boot to the Windows disk first. Then do the install with the Windows Disk, Scan Disk will run, when it is done Hit the X Key, Windows will install, this is not a reformat just a Windows install which may take care of the errors and you keep your installed programs. You will have to go to windows update after the install, over and over until you have all the updates. after you install go back into the Bios and change the Boot Option back to 1. Floppy 2. IDE-0 3 Cd-rom.

I have a very old computer at work that had so many problems that I decided to reformat c and reload windows 95. The hard drive is partitioned into 4 drives and all of the data that I want to save has been moved to one of them. I made a boot disk and reformatted today. After much fuss I finally got windows 95 loaded again but now it won't recognize the cdrom drive. I got it to run when I reloaded windows. Also when I have it check for new hardware it won't find the cdrom or the modem. What am I doing wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Cheryl
Try going into the Device Manager and remove the cd-rom and Modem, then reboot and see if it will find them. It may ask for the driver disks. Go to the Manufactures site and download the drivers for the cd-rom and the Modem. 95 does not have a lot of drivers.

Hi Mike, one more question before I go any further on this computer. When I reformatted the C drive I did not use the "/s" with the format command. Should I have and should I go back and reformat using "/s".
thanks

Mike I have a question for you. I hope I haven't screwed things up beyond repair. Had so much trouble after I reloaded windows 95 that I went back and reformatted and loaded window 98. It found all my hardware and installed the drivers.
Well the hard drive is partitioned into 4 drives. I copied the files I wanted to save (program files and all)onto these partitions. Now it tells me that I have to run the apps from where they were installed. Is there anyway to save this data?
The problem being I can't find all the software discs to reload them from scratch. Any suggestions.
I want to eventually go back and reformat this drive as 1 drive with windows 98 installed.
Thanks

When you say you saved the program files, how did you do that ? by copying the folder and moving it to the partition or did you use a program to actully move the program to a new drive ? or did you install the software to the partition ?

I just moved it. Copy Paste Dumb huh. But the programs are running on other computers at the office. Can I burn them to a cd and how do I make sure I get the whole program? As far as the data files that I moved I can probably put them on a disk and try and recover them later.

You will need the programs installation cd or like in downloads the zip file. When a program installs, it creates the folder in programs, but also puts entries into Windows Registry to tell Windows what to do with the files in the programs folder, you are missing the Registry enteries. Data files can be copied and pasted back into the programs folder. There is software that will Transport a program to a cd or drive, not sure about copying a program already installed
