Hi Mike
Ive put together a PC from bits Ive gathered. Ive based it on a Pentium II 266. Ive got it all together, jumper settings correct etc but when I start it I get a single long beep then it shuts itself off. The beep usually happens about a second after I press the power switch (nothing appears on screen). Ive check the memory, and tried memory I know is working and still the same. Could it be the boards dead?
Oh, the porn pop ups I was getting in work, I had to have my machine reformatted cos just couldnt find anything on the system!!!

I would remove everything but the keyboard and monitor and see if it will boot to the Bios. That means take out any cards not needed, disconnect the harddrive, floppy drive and cd-rom drive. If it boots to the Bios, add one stick of memory at a time and see if it boots, then the drives, then the cards.
