I'm looking for a free program for stopping pop-up ads. I've been using Pop-Up Stopper but I'm very disappointed in it. It doesn't seem to stop very many pop-ups, especially on free message boards. Any advice?

I do not use them, because they are usually Java programs like my drope down menus and if I have a popup killer the menus wont work. But here is an artical and two popup killers that the Screen Saver recommend.

Thanks. That is helpful. I can't run one all the time due to my work. I work at home searching for and verifying coupon codes for www.dealhunting.com (is it ok to say that here?) and when I'm working I need those pop-ups to find some of the coupon codes and deals, but when I'm done working and just surfing the web or reading message boards, those are the pop-ups I don't want. Some message boards and especially the game cheats sites are nearly impossible to read for all the pop-ups and the Pop-Up Stopper just isn't doing it's job on those sites. Thanks again.

Well I tried several different ones today and it looks like I did have the best. It wasn't stopping hardly anything, but then I found out that it has a setting for agressive pop up stopping. I set that and WOW what a difference. I went to all the normal places that usually have so many popups that I can't do a thing and it stopped ALL of them! Download the free version, right click on it and choose "preferences" an check the box for agressive pop up stopper and you're all set. Only thing is if you want to click a link that opens in a new window, you'll have to hit the shift key at the same time. Other than that it's working fine. A big DUH for me for not checking the options better. Here's the link, scroll down to see the free version. http://www.panicware.com/popupstopper.html

Thank You Sue
I will have to try it out and see how it works with your instructions, I really dislike Popup Ads, if I like it, I'll put it on the Free Downloads page, Thanks again Sue.

Well I downloaded and installed it, with it on the Aggressive setting, the Java boxes work on my site, but the links on my site that open in a new window do not work, also some of the ads were disabled. With the aggressive off, the ads work and so do the new window links, not sure how many popups it stops this way, will keep experimenting.

Mike,
when you have the agressive on, hold the shift button when you click a link and they'll open in a new window.

Yup ! that works and I read that duh ! and the ad that wasn't working is working now, must have been an error on the ads server. Now, I need to have the sound on to realize why the link is not working, because it is a new window poping open and popup stopper is stopping it. Besides those little quirks I like it !!! I tried using the popup ad stopper in my Firewall, but it blocked all Java and most all sites use Java Menus now days. This one allows the Java Menus to function, pretty cool Sue, good find !!
