My computer had Win 98 installed on it, and developed serious system problems, so I decided to finally install the XP I bought 2 years ago. I wanted to do a clean install, so I backed up what I wanted to save and looked up how to format my drive. Now I have clean hard disk and am unable to get XP to install. It tells me it can't be installed from DOS. I have a startup disk, and switched my cmos to boot from the cdrom, but I keep getting stuck when I boot from the CD. I know I have tried a lot of things, and I am not a complete novice with computers, but obviously I am missing something. I have another older computer Win95, but I really would rather use the puter I built, which is reasonably decent than use my crummy older e-Machine (blech!) Could someone tell me step by step (very specifically please) how to install my XP on my clean HD.
Many thanks.

Dontcha love people who asks questions and answer them themself? :P

Do you have the a Product Key ? You will need it to reregister XP with MS. If it was install with an OEM cd you will need one to repair it, all the Tools are on the cd to reformat or reinstall, you just need to set the BIOS to boot to the cd-rom drive. Borrow a cd from someone or you can buy one at comp-U-plus.com for around $78.00 with a piece of computer hardware, buy a cheap mouse. If the drive is partitioned, you will need to either delete all partitions or just delete and reformat the partition XP is install to.

I posted a new page in the XP section of the site, on how to reformat the NTFS or the Fat32 file Systems.
