CGMenu Script by Ahmad Mustaq CBiRD Digital Surgeons at work I have the above Drop Boxes for my Links, I asked Ahmad if it was possible to write a CGI Script where the Drop Boxes would call to a Text File for the Links. I said it would be so great to open one text file to add or delete links and all the pages would just call to that one text file for the links, instead of changing every page every time I add a new link. Now, I figured, hey what the heck, doesn't hurt to ask, I have looked for Scripts like that and found some in Java, but they will slow your page loading and some mess with your mouse. Well, Ahmad wrote a script to do just what I wonted it to do, it is a CGI Script so it loads fast, it calls to a text file, so you only open that, to add or delete links and it works perfectly, to me this is very amazing stuff. This is the first page I have it on right now, only because I have not had time to incorporate it on all of my pages, but will be doing that very shortly, I wonted to get a sample of the Script on my site to show how it works and in case some of you also use drop boxes for your links and would like to have the simplicity and function that this Script offers, Ahmad has allowed me to distribute it on my web site or better yet Visit Ahmads Web Site for other great Scripts, Information and Services. Ahmad has named it the CGMenu Script, click on Download to download Zip file. Ahmad has all the Information you should need to set it up in this Zip file, I would only add, that if you have more than one Drop Box on your page as I do, keep all the Zip contents in one folder in your CGI Bin on your Server, the reason I say this, is it will only service one Drop Box per text file, in order for it to service three, as I have, you will need three separate folders, folder one, two, three, then modify the config script in each folder to find the .pl and text files in the folder it is in, also the call commands in the shtml pages for each Drop Box need to call to each separate folder, you in essence have three Scripts running and three text files for your links, but they are in separate folders in the CGI Bin. Check out the Source on this page, you will notice each set of links is called from a separate file or folder, which works out really nice for adding links to each Drop Box, open a Text File Add a Link upload it to the Server and every page is changed, so Cool!!! |
