07/20/2001 Archived Entry: "Virus W32.Sircam.Worm@mm"

I recieved two viruses today, one was the HaHaHaHA virus, Norton AntiVirus Email protection caught and fixed it. The other was the W32.Sircam.Worm@mm Virus, Norton did not catch this one, because I had not yet updated my Virus protection Definitions, I openned it thinking it was something it wasn't, I did not know the worm had infected my Computer until Zone Alarm asked me if Sirc32.exe could connect to the internet, I clicked NO and updated Norton and ran a scan, sure enough I was infected. Norton cleaned it, but I had to fix some Registry entries before I could access any programs on my Computer. So update those Virus Definitions and don't open Email attachments. Mine was a .doc file, as soon as Word opened it, the worm installed itself. Go to my Virus page for more info.

The W32.Sircam.Worm@mm virus is actually a .zlo file, but this is hidden in most windows environments, to make it look like a .doc file! I say this, as even those who have set notepad to read .doc would get stinged with this file! I've had seven copies myself (pretty infexious vermin) five from people I've never heard of before! Two, however, from friends, so be careful out there!
