a zipped file is a compressed file. you need a program to extract them. one program (there are others)is winzip which is free for downloading the demo http://www.winzip.com/
look for the evaluation version
or
you can go into "other downloads" to get older versions, i use 7.0 because the newer versions tend to have "bugs". i haven't had any problems with 7.0
when you become familiar with the program you can make your own zipped (archive) files which can be useful if you send files via e-mail, to shorten upload and download time, also to save space if your getting short on harddrive space
