I can't get a straight answer on this question:

I have a Maxtor 10 GB. I upgraded my system (to ECS K7SEM w/ Duron 600 MHz cpu) and now I get the disk boot failure, insert boot disk message. I tried Fdisk /mbr, it says "Master boot code NOT updated." Tried Fdisk alone, it says error reading or writing to fixed disk. Tried low level format, invalid drive specification. Tried Gdisk, it said cannot read from sector 0 on fixed disk 1. I hooked it up to my mom's HP, and it said "cannot find operating system".

My bios sees it, and I read that because it sees it, the drive is probably fine? It sees how big it is, heads, cyl, etc. I just can't get into it.

This ECS board is extremely simple to put together, so I know there aren't any jumpers out of whack. I tried clearing the CMOS.

I did have the Sircam virus a while back, but I used Sophos' batch removal utility and things went ok till one day my computer started running games really fast, I rebooted twice, and it still did it, the third time rebooting, everything went black on my monitor, and my board would make arcade-like noises (It was an AMD K6 2/300) and I narrowed down my problem to the mobo, so I replaced it.

I'm sort of at a loss here, any ideas? The cables aren't turned around, they only go in one way...I'm trying to think of everything here..hehe

Thanks!
