Hi Barbara
If you can start in Safe Mode, go to the Control Panel, Double click the
System Icon, click the Device Manager Tab, check to make sure you have no
Errors there will be a Yellow Exclamation on something, if there is, check
it's Properties, you may have to Reinstall a driver, you can remove it and
let Windows Refind it, make sure you have any Diskes or Floppies that came
with your hardware handy. More than likely it will be you Graphics Adapter.
Also check to see if Windows duplicated anything in the Device Manager, like
2 of the same mice or Graphic adapters, if it did Remove one of them. If you
change something Windows will ask you to restart. Also reset your Screen
resolution, depending on your Graphics Adapter, Windows may have changed it
to a setting your Adapter can not handle, thats in Customize my Desktop--
Settings, I run at 16 million and 800 x 600. Also if you get up and running
again you may wont to go to Windows Update for any Critical updates and you
may wont to Update your Graphics Adapter with any new Drivers that are out.
Hope this helps, just Email me back if you need more info or help
