This is the Device Manager Screen 98

If you have a Yellow ! mark then there is a problem, click on it and click on the Properties button to try and find out what is wrong. Usually a IRQ conflict.

This is where the Device Manager is in XP

This is the Device Manager in XP, you go to the Control Panel-System Properties-the Hardware Tab. Works the same as 98, only it also has the feature that allows you to view Hidden Devices, under View.
